Sankofa Sundays is an exciting opportunity for young people ages 8 to 16 years old to participate and explore African Bermudian cultural heritage that is engaging and insightful. This exploration will be held for three Sundays in February for two hours and with experienced and qualified educators.

Departure point: 

In following COVID-19 requirements, Guests are Required to wear face masks.
Departure from the Visitor Service Center in Hamilton, near Ferry Terminal and this will be the return location. Please ensure to arrive at least 10 minutes early for check in and to ensure an on-time departure.  Snacks and water are allowed on the explorations.
 

The explorations are 2 hours & will depart promptly at the scheduled times.

Highlights


Freedom Tour for young people - Honors Trailblazers in African Bermudian History on a bus tour, and young people will be given activity sheets to complete in which we will discuss various topics and also play trivia and give out small prizes in this engaging 90-minute exploration. To prepare for a better future, we must know the stories of the past.

Wild Plants n Herbs of Bermuda – We will explore and learn about plants and their benefits and will venture out into one of Bermuda's beautiful landscapes at Spittal Pond nature reserve on a 90-minute exploration.

Art by Alshante – In this workshop at the Botanical Gardens, Horticulture Center, we will learn new art skills and take home one of kind crafts based on the stories we have learned and bring them into the present and share how these experiences could help us move into a better future through art on a 90-minute exploration.

Empowered Me Wellness –We will engage in a 15-minute mindful meditation experience, to connect with our thoughts and learn how they can empower us in the present and toward a better future, and this will be held at “The Griot”. A Towel or mat will be needed on this day.
